This sauce is one of those make-ahead staples I keep in the fridge on purpose. It’s creamy and a little spicy, comes together in a blender with zero cooking, and gets better as the flavors sit together for a day or two.
Macadamia nuts have the highest monounsaturated fat content of any nut, and because this sauce is never heated, it holds onto that vitamin E and healthy fat instead of losing it to oxidation the way roasted or cooked nut butters can. It’s also a great substitute for a peanut-based sauce if anyone at your table has a peanut allergy — macadamias are a tree nut, not a legume, but peanut-free.
My favorite way to use it is as a dressing over shredded cabbage, carrots, and a chicken quinoa salad, but it’s just as good spooned over stir-fry or noodles.

- 12 oz macadamia nut butter
- 5 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1/4 cup coconut aminos or soy sauce
- 3 tbsp honey

- 3 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp red chili flakes
- 2 tbsp ground ginger
- 1 tbsp paprika seasoning
- 4 fl oz spring water
- 1/2 tbsp sea salt
Blend all ingredients together until smooth. The flavor should be potent — it’ll be diluted once added to your final dish.
Keep in the refrigerator until needed.
Add a few tablespoons to your stir-fry, lentils, or noodles.
Keeps in the refrigerator for several weeks.

Recipe ideas: Add a few drops of chili oil. Add a large piece of fresh ginger or several cloves of fresh garlic. Perfect dressing for chicken quinoa salad. Add to shredded cabbage, carrots, onions, and cilantro for a fresh salad. Substitute macadamia with peanut butter if desired. Soy sauce can substitute for coconut aminos.
Diet notes: Dairy free, gluten free (confirm your coconut aminos brand is gluten free). Tree-nut containing but peanut free — a good option for peanut allergies.
